Description
Waterberg Landscape Painting is a contemplative abstract interpretation of the Waterberg region, where sweeping terrain and atmospheric light converge with conceptual gesture. In this work, artist Jonathan Edwards distills the essence of the South African landscape into layered fields of colour and form—balancing representation and abstraction.
Subtle earth tones define the foreground, marked by cultivated plots and brush-textured plains. Rising above, a line of dark, silhouetted mountains stands beneath a dramatic, shifting sky. Shafts of cool blue light break through stormy clouds, suggesting both a moment of stillness and transformation. The midground features a dynamic line of abstract organic marks—evoking growth, resistance, or perhaps a coded visual language rooted in nature.
Through this composition, Edwards expresses his recurring theme: the fragile interplay between organic systems and human presence. The painting becomes both a landscape and a meditation—on climate, memory, and the subtle tension between permanence and change.
