Description

When observing rock formations and the variety of stones we often come across, the details and the textures of the shapes enthral me. Whether it’s the smooth, weathered surfaces of river rocks or the jagged, sculpted edges of rock outcrops, each formation tells a unique story. The range of colours and shapes that emerge from these natural elements is amazing. Some rocks display rich, earthy tones while others feature subtle gradients or vibrant streaks These nuances have a beauty that captivates my attention every time.

When I set out to create a drawing inspired by these natural forms, my approach is not to “copy” the rock or stone in a literal sense. Instead, I view the rock as a reference point, a source of inspiration that guides the process without restricting it. I allow myself the freedom to let the drawing unfold spontaneously, embracing the organic flow of creativity. This approach results in an abstract version of the rock, where the forms are reimagined and transformed into something new and unique.

In my work, the shapes derived from these natural forms begin to take on an entirely new life. They shift from their original, tangible state into a geometric and organic blend. These newly formed shapes no longer resemble their natural counterparts; instead, they exist in a space between the natural and the imagined, creating a sense of abstraction that is separate from reality. The intention behind this is to create a sense of wonder and discovery, allowing the viewer to experience the raw energy of the rock formations while engaging with them in a completely new and unexpected way.
For creating these drawings and painting effects, I rely on Adobe Fresco, which has become my preferred digital platform. The application offers a variety of tools and features that suit my artistic needs perfectly. With Adobe Fresco, I have access to both vector and raster brushes, including traditional ink and pencil brushes, which allow me to experiment with different textures and details. The versatility of this platform enables me to mimic the fluidity of natural mediums, while also experimenting with digital effects to enhance the overall depth and richness of the piece. It provides a balance between precision and creativity, allowing me to bring my abstract interpretations to life with ease.
